Festivities and Upcoming Events

We are excited to welcome you all to the 2024 year.

It is a significant year for our beloved school as we celebrate the 125 years of Mercy education in this region. This is a celebration of our history, our growth, and our future. As we continue to grow and expand our school and our hearts, we look back in gratitude for those who planted the seeds of education, faith, and love when the Sisters of Mercy opened the doors to welcome their very first students into our school.

This year-long celebration will provide many opportunities for past students and staff to reminisce, reconnect, and rekindle friendships.

Beginning of Year Mass & Birthday Celebration

We officially marked the beginning of a very exciting year for St Anthony's school on Wednesday, 2 February. The day began with a Whole School Mass and Opening Ceremony of the 125 Years Celebration at St Alphonsus’ church, followed by a special cake cutting, morning tea, and school tours with some very special guests back at St Anthony's. We were delighted to have the company of four Sisters of Mercy, many past staff and students, two of our past principals, and many other special guests with us for a tremendous day of sharing stories and memories of St Anthony's.

Barefoot Bowling

On Friday, 22 March, St Anthony's school hosted a family event at the Millicent Bowling Club. This event was specifically held to honour the fathers, grandfathers, and sons of St. Anthony's community - past, present, and future. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones, while enjoying a game of barefoot bowls and sharing a BBQ. We had some interesting conversations with the guest panelists from different stages of life, including our current male School Leaders, Pat Noonan, Joe Rayson, Jack Gregory, and Fr Peter Zwaans, MC-ed by Rob Francis. All profits from this event were donated to the Millicent Men's Shed.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

Mother’s Day came early to St Anthony’s this year. On Friday, May 10, we honoured the remarkable women in our community with a lovely afternoon in the courtyard. Guests were  welcomed by the Senior Choir with their beautiful singing. Our School Captains opened the afternoon with a special prayer of gratitude for the extraordinary women in our lives. Similarly to the Barefoot Bowling event, a panel of past scholars and current female captains shared their experiences at St. Anthony’s. This event also served as a fundraiser for the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea. We thank P&F for their generous support in making this event possible.

St Anthony’s Feast Day Celebration

We honoured the patron saint of our school with a whole school Mass on Wednesday, 19 June. To make it extra special, this year we are blessed to have the first-class relic of St Anthony's lent to us for the occasion. This relic was venerated during Mass, as a way of honouring him and asking for his intercession for the staff, students, and families of St Anthony's school.

We also welcomed 34 students and 5 staff from Mary MacKillop Memorial School and Tenison Woods College, who joined us for the Mass and celebrations following the Mass. It was wonderful hosting our guests, and many of the students were past scholars of St. Anthony’s, making the day all the more special.

During the afternoon, students participated in a variety of fun activities to celebrate the Feast Day of St Anthony. Such a day could not happen without the support of the St Anthony’s staff and their hard work and commitment to developing such wonderful and varied activities. Their work is truly appreciated.
